1. Health and Fitness
One of the primary things you get out of the obstacle course racing community is health and fitness. Who would have thought that we could actually play like kids again all while improving our body and minds health? You might be thinking, “but, I only do one event a year.’ Well, we are talking about you as well. You did it! You stepped outside and tried something new. You might not try another obstacle race anytime soon but maybe it opened other doors that did not appear available before?
2. Physical social connections
Something we all have been lacking since the hardcore implementation to our society of social media is the physical connection. (Not the physical connections that makes babies silly!) By nature we are pretty much pack animals. We stay in groups. Obstacle course racing has helped us remember the feeling. The handshakes, high-fives and hugs from people outside your working environment. People that you inspire or are inspired by.
3. Shaking off redundancy
Most of us can relate to this. You became an adult. The first thing most of us do is create a pattern, more of a system on how we live our lives to meet our mandatory time commitments of work, making dinner for the family and many other things that most of us do not consider fun. Obstacle course racing has opened us a door. These events offer us the opportunity to step outside our redundancy an added a new risk filled experience that we will one day tell to our Grandchildren.
Many of us either have ourselves or have known someone who has started with obstacle course racing and now decided to reach out into street 5k, triathlons and even maybe pushed you to check out skydiving. Obstacle course racing become a gate-way for us to learn to challenge ourselves and create goals outside out work lives.
Each of these reasons can be highly expanded on based on your individual experiences. By leaving a comment below you can let the world know why obstacle course racing has made you a better person. Share your example of how it has changed you?
